Two seasons ago the Browns had to go with rookie QB Colt McCoy vs the Steelers in Pittsburgh in his first NFL start. Sunday, they will have to throw in an even more of an unknown vs the Steelers in the season finale.

The Browns will start Thaddeus Lewis, this after head coach Pat Shurmur ruled out starter Brandon Weeden as well as backup Colt McCoy with injuries.

“He’s done great,” Shurmur said of Lewis this in getting set this last week. “He’s had a good week of practice. He’s been preparing himself to play all year even though he wasn’t on the active roster. We anticipate and what we expect is that he goes out and plays winning football.”

Lewis played his college ball at Duke, and set records for career passing touchdowns and career passing yards. He was widely viewed[by whom?] as the best quarterback in the ACC during the 2009 season.

He signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent right after the 2010 NFL Draft, but was waived in September of 2011. He came to Cleveland after that, but was let go this past October before returning on Christmas Eve after injuries to Weeden and McCoy.

Along with the teams two top QB’s out, the Browns will also not have the services of RB Trent Richardson, as well as TE Jordan Cameron and CB Sheldon Brown.
